These watercolor paintings have been painted by me over the years and having looked at them now, they all have the same loose feel to them. Achieving such flowers can be easy and yet difficult but I’ve learnt that looking at works of others can be a good way to start as it gives the artist a starting point.

Art Supplies
Below are some recommended art supplies, some that I have personally used in these paintings.
Paints: These watercolor inks are absolutely gorgeous and well worth the buy. I love these inks for their vibrant colors.
Brushes: Having a good selection of brushes will help you get different variations in flowers.
Paper: Investing in good watercolor paper will also help you get the best results in your paintings. The heavier the paper, the better the results to absorb all the water.

Watercolor Flowers

Starting off with this simple rose I created with just a few brush strokes and limited colors but looks bright and summery!

Here we have a beautiful composition that I created on A2 paper. Working on large paper really helps you to loosen up and have more freedom. I love the red flowers with the pink, they go really well together.

Some lovely roses with a few layers. I like these because I tend not to work with yellow roses, however these turned out really nice.

This painting looks like it had a lot of thought into it, but would you believe me if I told you I created this at 12am with some left over paint?! Sometimes the most quick and spontaneous paintings turn out the best.

This painting was another quick painting in an A4 watercolor sketchbook that I had laying around. With a little quote and date I added in there.

Another quick painting I did in my small sketchbook. With these flowers however, I went in with some pink dry soft pastels ontop of the blue flowers to give it a little pop and I think it turned out pretty nicely!

These were some big bold flowers that didn’t go to plan, but we have to experiment with art! Although I like the colors, the composition didn’t work out well.

This painting was another experiment that didn’t go too well. I like this one however because of the muted color palette and it not being ‘too bright’.

Here’s a quick floral sketch in watercolor with some more dry pastels on top for some mixed media markings and I love it. Mixing different mediums together can sometimes create lovely outcomes.

These big flowers are bold and yet have a delicate look to them. I usually paint in watercolor inks, however these were painted from watercolor tubes and the outcome was really nice.

A very big and bold peonie painted with blue watercolor ink on A2 paper. Painting large flowers is my favourite because it allows for big brush strokes and more movement. Working on big paper can be intimidating, however, once you just put some paint on the paper things just flow.

This was a large spontaneous painting that I did. I put two A2 pieces of paper together so that I had more to work with and used lots of ink and water. Large scale paintings are good for letting go and just having fun, be sure to use large brushes too.

Another blue tone study that I did. Painting a rose on A3 paper. What helped with this was doing big brush strokes with a large brush to keep the movement and not having to overwork the rose.

Painting bouquets is sometimes fun too but definitely more difficult and requires practice. With bouquets its all about balance and choosing the right colors and making everything flow together.

This was a failed attempted at a bouquet! It was all over the place and had no structure, however what I still like about this painting are the colors and how full the page looks. It was difficult to do, nonetheless I had fun!

A very vibrant peony that I attempted to do at my earlier stages of watercolor flowers. Lots of layering on this peony but the structure was definitely off!
17.
Last up is this quick and small rose I painted with lots of contrasting colors. Every piece doesn’t have to be big and magnificent but sometimes quick and easy can create something cool too.
