Let’s take a look at the 17 watercolor flowers!
number one

Starting off with this flowy composition that has a lot going on. I had fun with lots of different colors and at the same time tried to keep it cohesive. Compositions in watercolor is something that is very tricky to do!
number two

These are some quick and loose purple roses I created, using a limited color palette. Not having too many colors can sometimes be beneficial because it helps to focus more on the flowers.
number three

These pink watercolor roses were fun to do because I used a lot of water to get the nice bleeds in the petals. I dabbed some orange into the petals to add a different color into the bleeds.
number four

This was a large scale painting I did on A3 paper. Painting larger can help with being more loose and free. In this painting however, the purple paint was too saturated and a subtler color needed to be added to it so that it wouldn’t be too strong.
number five

From large to small, this was a quick study in my A4 sketchbook. Working in my sketchbook is a little harder because it’s not watercolor paper but more mixed media paper. Paper makes a big difference in watercolor painting.
number six

This was a fun quick painting with not too much thought, but just going with the flow. I like the turquoise vlue added into the leaves with this painting as it goes nicely with the pink.
number seven

These were smaller flowers I painted without putting too much thought into the layout. It’s all about just having fun.
number eight

Another super quick rose painting but with a variation of different colored roses. These weren’t painted on watercolor paper so it was difficult to blend the colors together and get those nice bleeds.
number nine

I loved painting this because it was large scale and I used lots of different colored flowers and colors. The outcome was beautiful and made me think of turning this into wallpaper.
number ten

With this painting, I tried to be more controlled and intentional with the layout and flowers. I didn’t use a lot of water and tried make the flowers more prominent.
number eleven

I tried more of a layered look with this painting by letting the first layer dry before putting another layer on top. It’s always good to experiment with different looks and techniques.
number twelve

With this painting, I tried not to use too much paint and used as little as possible to give it more a delicate and gentler look. This gives more of a winter and autumnal look.
number thirteen

This is a close up of composition and I love it because of the beautiful bleeds in the flowers that are flowing out with different colors in the centre.
number fourteen

A bouquet painting with lots of different colored flowers and different foliage to add to the flowers. Sometimes it’s all the foliage and greenery that sets off the painting.

number fifteen

This was a singular rose that I enjoyed painting, because sometimes painting big compositions is hard. I like this one because of the centre as it becomes the main focus and the outer petals are lighter, giving an illusion of the rose opening.
number sixteen

This rose went a big wrong, because I tried to make it blend into the background and give it a different look, however that didn’t work. But we live and learn!
number seventeen

Last up is this small and cute composition I painted. This was one of my first compositions so it wasn’t the best, however I like the colors used in this painting as they go so well together and are some of my favourite colors.
This comes up to the end of out loose watercolor flowers and as you can see, there are so many to take inspiration from. I am by no means the best of painters in watercolor flowers, but I like to try and have fun with it, you just sometimes have to let go and let the paint brush do the work.
