This round up of art journaling has a lot of collages in almost every spread. Collaging is a great way to use magazine papers, or books and newpapers, even old journal papers. It’s a great way to re-use things that you would otherwise throw out.
You will see from this post that art journaling has many forms and is totally not restricted to one type of art form, all you have to do is have some artistic flare, (or not!) and just have some fun!

If you prefer acrylics then try these Pheobe Fine Studio Acrylics, set of 30 paints. This set has a lot of colors so you won’t have to do much mixing.

Starting off with this calming page of watercolor art. This art journal spread has been used to create a moodboard affect and capture scenery, the colors used are the main focal point of this piece.
Sometimes a place or even a memory can be inspiration for an art journal page. This type of page can be created with loose watercolors, or inks which bleed into each other. The artist has captured two different scenes in the same painting style.
My favourite is the botanical flowers painted along side the scenery in the same colors as the landscapes. Taking out some details from a larger picture and painting it larger can make us remember even the smallest details and evoke different memories,

This art journal is layers and layers of collage and painting, writing all on one spread. This kind of gives me pop art vibes because of the neon colors used.
Taking inspiration from this by building on the layers with different papers you have laying around, nothing has to be perfect but as along as it makes sense to you. Different weights on paper and kraft paper has been used on this spread, giving it more depth.

Art journaling doesn’t have to be about crazy collages and lots of layers. Although this art journal has layers, they blend in with the page and have nice subtle colors which work together.
This artist has used soft pastels and ink to create this page. Soft pastels are lovely because they blend in well together without much effort. They can be used to create a beautiful piece of art or used as an under layer as this artist has used them for.

From subtle colors to all out color overflow, and that’s the great thing about art journaling, it is very diverse. This page is fully collaged, and each collage has been placed with significance, making it all work together.
If you don’t have much art supplies at hand, but you feel like art journaling and have lots of magazines at hand, then this type of art journaling would be great for you. Just get a glue stick and some scissors, and go for it.

This art spread journal has a lot going on, from collage to painting, to stitching. The colors and everything about it go hand in hand. Adding stitching is a great way to add texture to your art journaling and add something a little different.
There is also some stamping on this page, this can be a lovely subtle way to add wording or secret quotes that mean something to you which will work with the page but not overtake it.

Sometimes creating something doesn’t have to be for show, but just for you and your own world. Like this artist has done, creating from her own world.
Often we use embroidery as a means for embellishing clothes or for displayed embroidery hoops. This artist has taken embroidery to a different level but having a full on embroidery art journal page. This is something we don’t often see in art journal pages and I think it’s a great idea.

This is a small but compact art journal page, with a lot going on. If you find it daunting looking at a blank page and not knowing what to do with it, then sometimes it’s good to start with a smaller page and create something small but meaningful to you.
It might be a small art page, bit this page has a lot going on. From collage, to painting, to abstract inking. Even thread stuck on for extra texture, even the colors have been really well thought-out.

Another collage art journal style, however, if you look closely these ripped papers used for collages are very different and aren’t torn magazine papers. These are actually old art journal pages, but re-purposed to create a whole new art journal spread.
This was something we were taught at art college, instead of throwing away old bits of painted paper, re-use it for another art piece. It can be great for creating really abstract pieces of art journaling and being completely loose in your approach and not overthinking.

A vintage style art journal which can also be seen in a lot of ‘junk journals’. The script is typical of a vintage script and the picture used, however everything else can be also interpreted as ‘modern’.
It looks like some foliage has been glued on to the page for decoration or gesso has been used. This can be a good idea with memorable flowers or foliage for an timeless keepsake.

This I would consider a very ‘artsy’ journal page, even though all the pages are artsy. What I mean by artsy is that it has mainly been painted and not so much collaged, but a display of artistic prayer.
The artist has shown that art journals can be a form or meditation and used for ‘prayer’ in a loose term. It doesn’t have to be written strategically or in beautiful handwriting, but let flow whatever comes to your heart. Choose the colors that best represent your feelings at the time and go for it.

A lovely journal page filled with flowers and subtle writing, with inks and paints. This artist has used a prompt to create this journal page. A great way for beginning your art journal page when you are stuck on what to do.
Create this type of page with old newspaper or book paper, and paint on top using good quality inks and paint. The flowers have been outlined with liners to give them more definition.

This is a very nature inspired journal page. Not only are the motifs very nature orientated, but the colors are so cohesive and look almost autumnal. Inks are used to create this lucid feel on the paper.
The main art technique the artist has used for this page is stenciling. Stencils have been used throughout the page to create gradient patterns as well as merge into the background. Although many art techniques have been used on this page, sometimes focusing on one to centre your piece around can give a sense of focus.

This artist has chosen to make this page vintage with mixing in modern, and it looks great. Coats of different paints are use on here, such as acrylic and inks, and lovely flower collages.
What makes this page looks extra ‘vintage’, is the papers used for the background. If you have old books laying around, instead of throwing them out. put them into good use for art journaling. Another way to make old vintage paper is the good old ‘coffee’ technique. Making coffee stains on paper and letting it dry can give the look of old paper if you don’t have any at hand.

A stunning art journal page with a lot going on. This one is also junk journal style because of the fabrics at the back of the page. It is giving a very fashion themed page with the model on one side and shoes that are matching in color on the other.
I love how all the bright colors work together. Sometimes its hard to pull off a page with lots of colors but this artist has done it really well.

This artist has used the prompt ‘Reflect’ to create this art journal page and the colors she has chosen really represent the word reflect. A very artsy style page with a lot of painting layers going on and stencils used for the words on the background.
I love how the artist has chosen to paint one half of the butterfly herself. This gives such a regal and authentic look to the page. Subtle splashes of purple are used in the background to add a hint of color working so well with the green.

This lucid, colorful and very free art journal spread is lovely to look at and very aesthetic at the same time. The artist has used different inks and mark making on this spread, as well as collage.
The black ink on top of the pink really adds a nice contrast to all the bright colors, making it stand out and giving the eye something to focus on.

Ending with this very different style of collaged art journal. Although we have seen this technique before, painting onto paper and then making a collage out of it, this actual style is very different.
The colors used are different and it looks like bleach has been used on kraft paper to make marks. Bleach is another way to get different marks onto paper and even sometimes draw with it.
