If you love mixed media art and a bit of collage, this post will surely inspire you! We have a quick and easy mixed media art tutorial that anyone can follow.
Doing a quick exercise like this in your sketchbook or art journal, is a good warm up activity and will get your creativity flowing.

All you need is a bit of curiosity, and a will to have play and have fun!
Art supplies
Not many supplies are needed for this, whatever you have lying around will work.
I have used a small sketchbook, some collage papers which I made from gelli printing, ink and a dip pen, and some derwent inktense blocks, which turn into paint once activated with water.

Let’s get to how we create a lovely mixed media art page!
Tutorial
I started of by choosing a picture reference for my drawing.
This is a simple flower yet has some details in the petals.
Step 1
First I chose the collage paper I wanted to use as my background piece.

Then I tore it and stuck it onto the sketchbook. I chose a collage paper with colors that wouldn’t overtake the drawing.

Step 2
Next, using my inktense blocks, I chose the color yellow to draw some expressive marks onto the black side of the page.

I also made some marks with an orange intense block.

I lightly went over the marks with some water to activate the paint and have some abstract marks on the page.

Step 3
Once the page dried, I started to draw out my flower, without doing a sketch beforehand! This makes this make unpredictable.
I started off with the centre of the flower.

Then I started to draw out the petals, just the outline of them first without any details. Keeping it nice and loose.

Step 4
One the outline of the flower is drawn, start working on the stem and add some leaves.

Step 5
Add some lines into the petals for the details.

Step 6
Once you finish doing the lines inside the petals, go over some of the outer petals with a thicker line to distinguish between the lines. Plus this gives the drawing more depth.

Then your flower is complete and you have a lovely mixed media art piece in your sketchbook!
